Nearly 30 years on from a teenager’s murder, Pascal Lafolie stands accused in a French court—after DNA evidence linked him to the crime.

A murder suspect has gone on trial in Laon, northern France, almost three decades since the killing of 17-year-old Nadège Desnoix.

Pascal Lafolie, 58, was arrested in 2021 after DNA evidence linked him to the 1994 crime. He admits being at the scene but denies murder.

Desnoix’s body was found with stab wounds near her school in Château-Thierry, with a nylon cord and a plucked rose nearby.

The case baffled investigators for decades. Lafolie— whose DNA was obtained in an unrelated domestic violence case—now faces up to 30 years in prison, with a verdict expected on Thursday, September 25.
