German Die Zeit reported the German Police Union (DPolG) is demanding that police officers be given a first aid kit they would carry at all times, in light of the ever more frequent knife attacks in Germany.
The belt pouch would include a tourniquet, so that officers could quickly stop bleeding.
DPolG Chairman Ralf Kusterer said “The equipment in these kits enables a rapid and effective response to serious injuries, initiating life-saving measures in the crucial first minutes until professional help arrives.”
The kits would enable police officers not just to help others—but also themselves. According to the German Federal Criminal Police Office, the number of attacks on police increased by 8% in 2023 compared to the previous year, with over 46,000 attacks recorded.
Only last week, an Afghan illegal alien, whose asylum application was rejected in 2017 and the appeal against that decision in 2020, but was still in the country, attacked two police officers with a knife, seriously injuring one of them. The police officers were supposed to arrest the Afghan, a convicted criminal, for violating the terms of his probation. According to Kusterer, one officer suffered defensive wounds to his hands and arm, some of them down to the bone. The police officers then fired several shots, killing the 27-year-old man.
The Union does not seem to have suggested a more obvious solution to rampant knife crime in the country: deporting all illegal migrants.
