Russia has warned Germany not to send long-range Taurus missiles to Ukraine, saying any missile attack on Russian targets would mean Germany’s direct participation in the war.

Germany’s next chancellor, Friedrich Merz recently said he would donate Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine—something that his predecessor, Olaf Scholz, has been reluctant to do for fear of escalation.

The Taurus KEPD-350 is capable of travelling at a speed of up to 1,170 kilometres per hour and can reach targets as far as 500 kilometres away.

A Taurus “strike against any Russian facility of critical transport infrastructure … all of this would be regarded as direct participation of Germany in hostilities,” Russian foreign ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said on Thursday, April 17th.

Both the United States and the UK have supplied long-range missiles to Ukraine.
