A 20-year-old Afghan suspect has been placed in pre-trial detention in connection with an alleged sexual offense involving an 11-year-old girl at a school in Koblenz, according to the public prosecutor’s office.
The alleged incident is reported to have taken place on April 28th, 2026, in a school toilet. According to investigators, the suspect is believed to have acted together with a 19-year-old male accomplice. The younger suspect is accused of restraining the child while the 20-year-old allegedly committed the assault. The 19-year-old suspect has not yet been arrested and remains at large.
The 20-year-old was arrested on May 4th and subsequently brought before a detention judge, who ordered pre-trial detention. Prosecutors confirmed that he is also under investigation for another alleged sexual offense. In addition, he has previously been fined for illegal possession of a firearm without a license.
According to the public prosecutor’s office, the suspect is an Afghan national. Officials have stated that further details are not being disclosed in order to avoid jeopardising the ongoing investigation.
The case gained wider attention after false images and rumours about the alleged perpetrator circulated online. Police in Koblenz later clarified that these materials were not accurate and were not authorised as part of the investigation. Authorities warned that spreading unverified information could have legal consequences and complicate police work.
Following the incident, police reported that many concerned parents contacted authorities from different schools in the Koblenz area. A police spokesperson stressed that there is currently no indication of a wider danger to students. The affected school has been cooperating with law enforcement and has established a crisis team to support communication with pupils and parents.
