The German interior minister said “the best form of integration is into the world of work.”

German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt has announced an initiative to get asylum seekers into work more quickly. The Bild revealed refugees will be granted permission to work in Germany after just three months of residence.

Dobrindt told the newspaper

Anyone who comes here should be able to work–and quickly. The best form of integration is into the world of work. The goal is participation through employment.

An Interior Ministry spokeswoman emphasised that under the new regulations, all types of employment should be possible, whether mini-jobs, part-time, or full-time. However, the fact that someone is working “should not influence the outcome of their asylum decision.”

Asylum seekers’ earnings should be offset against the social benefits they receive, for example, for accommodation.
