German Interior Minister Alexander Dobrindt said on Friday, November 21st, that the use of date rape drugs will now be trated as the use of weapons in prosecutions.
“We classify date rape drugs, which are increasingly used as a widespread tool in crimes, as weapons. This creates the basis for significantly stricter prosecutions,” Dobrindt said on Friday, November 21st. “We are committed to clear consequences and consistent enforcement. Women should feel safe and be able to move freely everywhere.”
It is commendable that the CDU/SPD government apparently holds women’s safety close to its heart. In fact, women do not feel safe everywhere in Germany, especially not in swimming pools—or, for that matter, in public spaces or at home. What Dobrindt did not mention was that, as our columnist Lauren Smith put it, “Germany’s migrant crime problem is out of control.“
