Four EU member states (France, Belgium, Spain and the Netherlands) have spent more money on Russian liquefied natural gas (LNG) than they have provided in financial support to Ukraine – according to a new Greenpeace report published on Tuesday (30 September).
These four member states, which import the most Russian LNG in the EU, spent a total of €34.3 billion on it between 2022 and June 2025, while their total support to Ukraine amounted to €21.2 billion.
Greenpeace noted that in the first half of 2025 the EU imported a total of 12.8 billion cubic metres of Russian LNG, representing a 67 percent increase compared with the first half of 2021.
