The International Criminal Court (ICC) has voted to dismiss its chief prosecutor for alleged sexual misconduct.
British lawyer Karim Khan, elected in 2021, was facing serious allegations of sexual misconduct. Members—the 125-state Special Session of the Assembly of States Parties—cast 82 votes in favour of removing him, based on findings in June that he had committed a “serious breach of duty and serious misconduct,” prompting his suspension. Afterwards, the Court claimed that it will
continue to attach the utmost importance to maintaining a safe, inclusive, and respectful working environment for all personnel.
Khan denies all allegations and is exploring his legal options. The dispute comes at a sensitive time for the ICC, with U.S. president Donald Trump setting out to “demolish” it earlier this month.
