Demonstrating its commitment to professional conduct, the Israeli military has removed two soldiers from the front lines and placed them in detention following the unauthorized destruction of a religious monument.

In a swift move to uphold military standards and religious sensitivity, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced on Tuesday, April 21st that two soldiers have been sentenced to 30 days of military detention and removed from combat duty.

The disciplinary action follows a widely circulated video showing a soldier using a sledgehammer to strike a fallen statue of Jesus in the southern Lebanese Christian village of Debel.

The military inquiry concluded that the conduct “completely deviated from IDF orders and values.”

To rectify the situation, the IDF coordinated directly with the local Maronite community to replace the crucifix and reinforced its protocols regarding the protection of religious sites. This internal cleanup comes at a critical time as the 10-day ceasefire—negotiated to pause the broader conflict against Hezbollah—remains fragile but operational.
