In retaliation for the EU’s move to classify the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps as a terrorist organisation, Iran has now applied the same label to the armies of European nations.

Iran has officially designated the armies of European countries as “terrorist groups” in response to the European Union’s decision to recognise the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organisation. Parliament speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said the move was based on “Article 7 of the Law on Countermeasures Against the Designation of the IRGC as a Terrorist Organisation.”

Bagher Ghalibaf wore an IRGC uniform during his speech, expressing his solidarity with the Revolutionary Guard. In his parliamentary statement, he emphasised that the classification of European armies under this law is automatic and part of the legal mechanism followed by Iran.

The decision increases tensions between Iran and the European Union.
