Iran has launched fresh attacks on U.S. military bases across the Gulf, while Washington carried out another wave of overnight strikes targeting sites inside Iran, marking a further escalation in the conflict, despite earlier efforts to deescalate.
According to Tehran, Iranian forces targeted U.S. military facilities in Jordan, Kuwait, and Bahrain during the latest round of attacks.
The U.S. military said it conducted a six-hour operation against multiple targets in Iran aimed at degrading Tehran’s ability to threaten maritime traffic in the Strait of Hormuz.
The latest strikes come after President Donald Trump warned that Iran “had better behave” or face additional military action if it refuses to return to negotiations.
Trump also threatened to target Iran’s energy infrastructure should diplomatic efforts fail.
Iranian officials signaled they are unwilling to return to talks under the current conditions.
Parliament Speaker Mohammad Bagher Ghalibaf said Tehran had “no reason” to honor any agreement that did not serve Iran’s interests, adding that safeguarding the country’s national security requires maintaining control over what he described as Iran’s strategic arrangements in the Strait of Hormuz.
The renewed exchanges have further raised tensions across the Gulf, and sent oil prices sharply higher.
