Tehran’s pledge may calm energy markets, but uncertainty remains over which ceasefire is in force.

Iran’s foreign minister Abbas Araghchi said on Friday that the strategic Strait of Hormuz will remain “completely open” for commercial shipping for as long as the current ceasefire in the Middle East holds.

“The passage for all commercial vessels through Strait of Hormuz is declared completely open for the remaining period of ceasefire,” Araghchi wrote on X.

It remains unclear which ceasefire he was referring to. The statement could relate either to the 10-day truce between Israel and Lebanon that came into force at midnight, or to a separate two-week ceasefire between Iran and the United States that began on April 8.
