German security agencies have sounded the alarm over a growing threat from radicalised Islamist Syrians living in Germany.
The alerts come amid escalating violence in Syria targeting ethnic and religious minorities such as Druze, Alawites, and Kurds.
These tensions abroad are feared to spill over into Germany.
The Bund Deutscher Kriminalbeamter (Federal Association of Criminal Investigators) has raised concerns that the conflict in Syria may empower extremist individuals residing in Germany to engage in serious crimes.
“Islamists living in Germany are currently calling for violence against minorities who have fled the Middle East—Druze in particular are threatened,” said chairman Dirk Peglow.
These minorities have already had a taste of what may come their way. During a recent aggressive demonstration in Berlin, nearly 400 men publicly celebrated the recent massacres committed against the Druze community in Syria.
In Düsseldorf, a demonstration escalated and turned into a mass brawl when Syrians attacked a pro-Kurdish rally.
