In his first major interview with a European media outlet, U.S. Vice President JD Vance declared
It’s not good for Europe to be the permanent security vassal of the United States.
In his conversation with UK outlet UnHerd, the VP stressed that the Old Continent can still consider the United States a friend, provided that it is willing to assume a more independent role on the world stage.
Vance also criticized Europe’s leaders, stating that they should be more responsive to the concerns of their voters, especially when it comes to migration.
In terms of the Russo-Ukrainian war, the Vice President rejected President Zelensky’s suggestion that the United States is “somehow on the side of the Russians.” He argued that it is necessary to understand
where the Ukrainians and the Russians see their strategic objectives
in order to be able to broker a deal.
Regarding President Trump’s tariffs, the VP argued that the ultimate goal for the United States is to achieve “fairness” in its trade relations with other countries, including European Union ones.
