The European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy said on Monday, October 13 that Russia was “gambling with war” following a series of drone and military jet incursions into EU airspace.
NATO has strengthened its eastern defences amid concerns over repeated violations, including flying military jets into Estonian airspace.
According to Kaja Kallas
To keep war at bay, we must translate the economic power of Europe into military deterrence.
Kallas visited Kyiv for talks on military and financial support—as well as energy infrastructure issues—noting recent attacks on power plants. Ukraine introduced power cuts across several regions as a result of these strikes, which Ukrainian officials described as “cynical.”
In response, Ukraine has targeted energy sites, including Russian-operated oil depots, aiming to limit funding for military operations.
Kallas indicated EU support for the delivery of U.S. long-range Tomahawk missile supplies.
U.S. president Donald Trump suggested that such military supplies could be discussed with Moscow, though Russian officials have warned that this could escalate tensions.
