The head prosecutor of the International Criminal Court (ICC) now stands accused of retaliating against staff who called out his (alleged) sexual misconduct. This new allegation, supported by five sources talking to Reuters, is the subject of an ongoing United Nations investigation into Chief Prosecutor Karim Khan. Colleagues have complained that reporting Khan’s sexual misconduct towards a more junior lawyer he managed—or criticising his handling of the matter—meant they faced ‘retaliation.’
The claims come at a bad time for the ICC, under fire for issuing an “antisemitic” arrest warrant against Benjamin Netanyahu—which in turn contributed to Hungary’s withdrawal from the Court—and for ‘mission creep’ which has seen its growing involvement in domestic politics.
