Kuwait’s armed forces said on Sunday they had intercepted several hostile drones over the country, in what appeared to be the latest security incident since the fragile ceasefire in the Middle East war came into effect.
In a statement posted on X the Kuwaiti army’s general staff said the drones were detected at dawn and were “dealt with in accordance with established procedures.” Authorities did not specify how many drones were involved or identify their origin.
The incident comes only weeks after a ceasefire was brokered following the escalation between Iran, Israel and the United States, which had fuelled fears of a wider regional conflict involving Gulf states and key energy infrastructure.
Kuwait, which hosts U.S. military facilities and sits near major regional flashpoints, has remained on heightened alert since the outbreak of hostilities earlier this year. Regional governments have repeatedly warned that even isolated drone incidents could risk undermining the already fragile truce.
No casualties or damage were immediately reported, and Kuwaiti authorities said investigations into the incident were ongoing.
