The British government voted down an opposition proposal for transparency on migrant offences, sparking Conservative Party criticism.

Wednesday, October 22nd saw Labour members of the UK parliament vote against a Conservative amendment to the Sentencing Bill that would have required the publication of all migrant crime data. The amendment was also supported by Reform UK’s Richard Tice, Lee Anderson and Sarah Pochin.

Shadow Justice Secretary Robert Jenrick accused Labour leader Keir Starmer of breaking his pledge of a “transparency revolution”, claiming the decision puts public safety at risk.

The government had previously promised to release “crime tables” for migrants awaiting deportation but six months on, no such data has been published.

Labour officials maintain that compiling the information would be too costly and complex. In contrast, the Centre for Migration Control is able to report on migrant crime statistics using its own freedom of information requests.
