A killer of six was jailed for life when he was found guilty on Friday, June 26th, of the Magdeburg Christmas market attack.
Back in December 2024, a refugee Saudi psychiatrist—named Taleb A., in line with German privacy laws—drove through the market in a rented BMW, killing five women and a nine-year-old boy. Hundreds were injured.
Taleb A., described as an ‘ex-Muslim’ by prosecutors, seemed to be reacting to dissatisfaction with a legal dispute and the failure of various criminal complaints. He had no prior convictions prior to initiating the mass casualty attack.
The five female murder victims were aged between 45 and 75. The youngest victim was nine-year-old Andre Gleissner.
While Taleb A’s political background seems atypical, his actions fit in with the wider trend of mass casualty attacks in European cities, specifically targeting Christmas markets.
