A drone, “very probably” Ukrainian, crashed in Lithuania near the eastern city of Utena without exploding, officials said Sunday, adding that no one was injured.
Vilmantas Vitkauskas, head of the country’s crisis management centre, told journalists the drone was “very probably” Ukrainian.
Several drones have crashed inside the three Baltic states of Lithuania, Latvia and Estonia since the start of the war in Ukraine.
Earlier this month, two Ukrainian drone crashes in neighbouring Latvia triggered political consequences, leading to the resignation of the country’s defence minister and the fall of the government last Thursday.
Ukraine has been targeting Russian infrastructure in the Gulf of Finland, particularly ports and refineries, to weaken Moscow’s war capabilities.
However, mechanical defects or Russian jamming can cause Ukrainian drones to veer off course and crash into neighbouring allied territories.
