Lithuania temporarily shut Vilnius International Airport and issued shelter orders in several regions after a UAV alert, according to the defence ministry on Wednesday, May 20th.
An emergency warning was sent to residents in the capital, instructing people to
Go immediately to a shelter or a safe place, take care of your family members and wait for further instructions.
Local media reported that the president and prime minister briefly took cover during the incident. However, the army later confirmed that the alert had been lifted and citizens were allowed to leave their shelters.
For at least the past year, Lithuania has been unsettled by a spate of drone incursions linked to the Russo-Ukrainian war, sometimes originating from Belarus.
