The Liverpool Premier League victory celebration was disrupted by a car ramming incident on Monday, May 26th.
Emergency services confirmed 47 people were injured in the attack, with 27 requiring hospital treatment, including four children.
A 53-year-old “white British man” has been arrested in connection with the incident.
Merseyside Police told a press conference they believe the attack was an isolated incident, which is “not being treated as terrorism.”
The similarities between this incident and violence elsewhere using motor vehicles—predominantly mass-casualty attacks led by Islamists—puts additional pressure on law enforcement messaging. More pressing still is the perceived cover-up over last year’s Southport murders, where police secrecy helped to fuel public disorder.
