The serious violence on the edge of the English capital’s West End may have been a ‘mental health’ episode according to leaked police information.

A 47-year-old woman has been arrested after four men were stabbed on Endell Street in Covent Garden, in central London, the Metropolitan Police confirmed.

Emergency services responded to reports of the knife attack at 12:29 p.m., discovering four male victims—aged 34, 39, 42 and 52—suffering from serious stab wounds.

The London Ambulance Service dispatched an ambulance crew, a paramedic in a fast response car, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance, which landed nearby in Trafalgar Square. First responders treated the four patients at the scene before transporting them all to a major trauma centre as a priority by road.

According to the increasingly discredited Metropolitan Police, the suspect was detained on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and assault. Officers recovered a pair of scissors at the crime scene. While the investigation remains in its infancy, at present the authorities view the stabbing as a mental health-related incident.

A police cordon was quickly established on Endell Street, stretching from High Holborn to cover the St. Mungo’s homeless centre, where officers were observed interviewing individuals before entering the facility. Despite the heavy police presence, adjacent restaurants have continued regular business operations.
