"A movement is now emerging in Europe and around the world to demonstrate that the two-state solution is still relevant," PM Luc Frieden said.

Luxembourg confirmed it will stand with a group of nations recognising Palestine at next week’s UN summit in New York.

French President Emmanuel Macron is spearheading the drive on recognising a Palestinian state.

Luxembourg’s Prime Minister Luc Frieden told journalists on Monday night that “the circumstances on the ground have markedly worsened in recent months.”

“A movement is now emerging in Europe and around the world to demonstrate that the two-state solution is still relevant,” Frieden said.

“That is why the Luxembourg government intends to join those who recognise the State of Palestine at next week’s conference on the two-state solution.”

At the forthcoming UN General Assembly meeting, nations such as the UK , Australia, Canada, and Belgium intend to recognise the State of Palestine.

Israel and the U.S. have expressed disapproval, with Marco Rubio saying on Monday that recognition of a Palestinian state only emboldens Hamas.

Recognition of Palestine by certain Western states comes as Hamas still holds hostages, starving and torturing them, following the October 7, 2023 pogrom in which Palestinian terrorists brutally killed 1,219 people, the majority of them civilians.
