French president Emmanuel Macron and his wife, Brigitte are suing U.S. influencer Candace Owens for defamation—after she claimed Mrs. Macron was born male. Their lawyer says they will present photographic and scientific evidence in court.
Mrs. Macron found the claims “incredibly upsetting,” while Owens’ lawyers filed a motion to dismiss.
Brigitte’s lawyer, Mr. Clare, said that scientific expert testimony would be presented. While he did not disclose details, he stressed the couple was ready to fully prove the allegations false.
The claim began in fringe online spaces, popularised by a 2021 YouTube video. The Macrons won a defamation case in France in 2024—later overturned on appeal—and have since sued Candace Owens in the U.S. accusing her of knowingly spreading false claims.
Owens’ lawyers seek dismissal, citing free speech and jurisdiction issues.
