Italian prime minister Giorgia Meloni hosted Polish president Karol Nawrocki in Rome on Monday, May 18 for high-level talks focused on bilateral relations, European Union cooperation, and international crises. The meeting took place at Palazzo Chigi and was described by both sides as constructive, with an emphasis on strengthening political and economic ties between Italy and Poland.
Meloni said the discussions centred on the “excellence and solidity of the bilateral partnership between Rome and Warsaw” as well as key global challenges. She also highlighted shared perspectives on several international issues.
Polish president Nawrocki also met Italian president Sergio Mattarella during his visit. According to officials, the talks included security policy, EU cooperation, and the broader geopolitical situation affecting Europe.
Earlier in the day, Nawrocki and his wife visited the Vatican, where they laid flowers at the tomb of Pope John Paul II on the anniversary of his birth.
Later in the visit, Nawrocki is expected to travel to Monte Cassino, where commemorations are being held for the 82nd anniversary of the World War II battle.
