Former German Chancellor Angela Merkel remained silent for several years before stepping back into the public eye with the publication of her memoirs. Now, as a retired politician, she has called upon her successor – and former rival – Friedrich Merz to abandon his stance in favour of stricter migration policies.
Alexander Marguier, editor-in-chief of the German conservative magazine Cicero, was outraged by Merkel’s comments.
The German journalist argues that it was Angela Merkel herself who was responsible for what he considers Germany’s catastrophic migration policy, and that she is now stabbing her own successor, Friedrich Merz, in the back. Marguier is of the view that, in this situation, Angela Merkel must leave the CDU.
