A brutal attack unfolded on Saturday morning in the center of Milan, near the iconic San Siro stadium: a migrant stabbed his victim 22 times outside a bar on Alfonso Capecelatro Street. The attacker was detained by a 38-year-old Egyptian until the police arrived.

“I grabbed him and pushed the ground while he was trying to flee,” said Sobhi Rezk Azzam, an Egyptian working as a bricklayer. “This morning a man was sitting with his son in the bar. This guy came up and, out of nowhere, stabbed the older man in the stomach about ten times. He was just trying to escape when I pinned him to the ground,” he told journalists.

The attacker was revealed to be 22 years old and originally from Gambia. Authorities also released his name: Lamin Saidilly. He was arrested for attempted murder.

According to Il Giornale, the victim is a 55-year-old man who was taken to the hospital in critical condition. The victim suffered severe liver damage, and one of his lungs had collapsed.

The attacker and the victim did not know each other. According to authorities, the migrant suffers from psychiatric problems.

However, police discovered that the migrant had previously lived in England for ten years, and “several motivational messages” were found in his wallet.
