Three elected police and crime commissioners have released a leaflet aimed at promoting compassion for migrants in Britain.
Officials from Durham, Northumberland, and Cleveland back the messaging, produced alongside the pro-immigration group North East Migration Partnership (NEMP), to be distributed in libraries and community centres.
A leaflet aims to challenge so-called common myths about migrants, by arguing that they contribute more to public finances than the average British citizen and that there is no clear link between migration and rising crime rates. The NEMP is funded by the Home Office and the Department for Levelling Up, Housing, and Communities.
Critics note that low-paid migrants cost more in public funds than they pay in tax, while court records show the high proportion of asylum seekers committing offences, including violent and sexual crimes.
