The rollout of body cameras comes as House Democrats demand major reforms to security operations.

Federal officers in Minneapolis will be equipped with body cameras following the fatal shootings of two protesters, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) said on Monday, February 2nd.

DHS Secretary Kristi Noem posted on X:

Effective immediately we are deploying body cameras to every officer in the field in Minneapolis.

She added that “as funding is available, the body camera program will be expanded nationwide.”

Three days into the shutdown, House Democrats are demanding changes to how DHS conducts its immigration sweeps before they will vote on a new spending package. Their demands include the use of body cameras, a ban on masks, and a requirement that agents obtain judicial warrants prior to arrests and detentions.
