Ukrainian drones have hit several locations across Moscow in Kyiv’s biggest air raid on the Russian capital since the war began.
Multiple targets were set alight, including a major oil refinery. There were also forced evacuations at the country’s largest airport. Kyiv described the attack as a response to an earlier Russian strike on a historic monastery. According to Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky
We do not want this war and never did … But if Ukraine is going to burn, your Moscow will burn too … It is time to end the aggression, time to end this war.
This latest long-range attack appears to have been planned to disrupt operations at the major oil refinery in the Kapotno area, in the second strike in two days on the facility. The refinery supplies up to 40% of the capital’s petrol and about 50% of its diesel fuel.
Moscow mayor Sergei Sobyanin claimed about 180 incoming drones were downed as air
defence forces are continuing to repel a large-scale attack. Several drones managed to reach the [oil refinery, however].
Ukraine’s recent actions reflect a shift towards conducting long-range attacks within Russia, as seen previously in St. Petersburg.
