NATO said on Wednesday, October 29th, that it had been informed in advance of U.S. plans to reduce some troops on the alliance’s eastern flank, calling the move an “adjustment” and nothing “unusual.”
A NATO official emphasized that Washington’s commitment remains clear, noting that U.S. forces in Europe are still larger than they have been for many years.
Romania’s defense ministry revealed that the U.S. plans to halt the rotation of a brigade with elements in Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary.
Despite concerns among some allies about potential Russian aggression, NATO insisted that robust defense plans remain in place to deter threats and ensure collective security.
