A German defence technology startup, Helsing, has developed a new type of drone: the CA-1 Europa is reportedly capable of carrying out military missions autonomously, in swarms, and in cooperation with piloted fighter jets – writes Reuters. The company plans the first flight for 2027, and the drone could be combat-ready within the next four years.

Gundbert Scherf, co-founder of the company, believes that artificial intelligence will fundamentally transform many areas of life, including the defence industry. In his view, what matters most is that AI enables the autonomous execution of missions.

The company has not yet disclosed the exact list of armaments or the price; they have only stated that the CA-1 Europa is expected to cost a fraction of the price of conventional fighter jets.
