Several knife attacks were reported across Germany over the past few days, including one fatal incident in Frankfurt, according to German media and police reports.
In Frankfurt on Friday, a dispute between two men in an apartment escalated into violence. One man suffered serious stab wounds and died at the scene. Police shot the suspected attacker, who was taken to hospital with serious injuries.
Also on Friday evening, two men were seriously injured during a knife fight at a petrol station in the town of Rauenberg in Baden-Württemberg. Police said one of the men used a knife during the altercation.
In Berlin, a masked man attacked a 19-year-old employee at a 24-hour shop in the Spandau district early on Thursday morning. According to police, the victim resisted before the attacker slashed his thigh with a knife and fled.
Another incident took place in Regensburg, Bavaria, where a man allegedly threatened another person with a hammer during an attempted robbery. The other man then pulled out a knife. Police said no one was injured.
Authorities have not indicated that the incidents are connected. However, the cases have renewed debate in Germany over violent crime and public security.
Opposition politicians have called for tougher policing and stricter migration controls, while the government says it is already strengthening weapons laws and police powers. Public concern over crime and migration remains high ahead of upcoming regional elections in Germany.
