Qatar’s foreign ministry has announced that U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff and President Donald Trump’s son-in-law, Jared Kushner, will travel to Doha to meet Qatari mediators and discuss the latest developments in U.S.-Iran negotiations.
However, Foreign Ministry spokesman Majed Al Ansari said there are no plans for a high-level meeting between U.S. and Iranian officials. During what was otherwise a quiet press briefing, he also denied reports that Qatar had transferred $6 billion (€5.26 billion) in previously frozen Iranian assets to Tehran.
Meanwhile, Qatar has begun working with neighbouring Oman to help safeguard shipping through the Strait of Hormuz—a practical step that contrasts with the largely unsuccessful diplomatic efforts of French President Emmanuel Macron.
