Footage on X, formerly Twitter, shows gangs of armed migrants from East Timor seeking confrontation with locals in Dungannon, Northern Ireland.

The initial violence, which involved men carrying large knives and machetes, was reportedly between different factions of the local East Timorese population. As other residents from the predominantly Loyalist housing estate in County Tyrone turned out to protect their neighbourhood, the migrants became aggressive towards them.

Finally, in a depressingly familiar pattern of two-tier policing, the Police Service of Northern Ireland turned up to exert control over the more long-established members of the local community, while appearing to give the marauding migrants a free pass.

The 2011 census recorded 894 people born in East Timor living in Northern Ireland; within a decade there were 2,874, with more than two-thirds based in Mid-Ulster.

To date, the mainstream media has shown little interest in the incident, sticking with the line established 12 years ago in the Belfast Telegraph (“Hard-working, respectful and warm… we could learn from our Timorese guests”). Public broadcaster the BBC calls Dungannon ‘diversity town.’ Yet, reveals the X account of Tommy Robinson (Stephen Yaxley-Lennon), more sinister forces are on the march:

Online reports of local residents in Dungannon (Northern Ireland) confronted weapon wielding migrants from East Timor causing havoc in the area.

Obviously those who wanted to defend their estate were the ones who got nicked by the old bill.
