Digging into recent Department for Education data for England and Wales shows that a state nursery school suspended a pupil no older than four on charges of “abuse against sexual orientation and gender identity.” The disturbing incident, about which all other information is being withheld, came to light as part of an investigation into the level of violence from pupils against teachers and the use of school suspensions and expulsions as disciplinary measures.
Amid growing concern that behaviour in schools has deteriorated since the COVID-19 pandemic, the most recent statistics—from the 2022-23 school year—list a total of 94 state primary school pupils (ages 5 to 11, in addition to the nursery student) were suspended or permanently excluded for alleged “transphobia” and “homophobia.” Lord (Toby) Young, the director of the Free Speech Union, told the Telegraph:
It beggars belief that schools are suspending children as young as five for breaching their ‘transphobia’ policy. I would have thought that if your ideology is so rigid it justifies you punishing toddlers for not complying with it, that’s a powerful argument for discarding it in favour of something less dogmatic.
