A man was arrested in Place de Clichy, Paris on suspicion of a knife attack on three women—leaving two seriously wounded—on Monday, July 27th.
The three women, aged 19, 24 and 36, were injured when the suspect used two kitchen knives, severely wounding two of them, before their assailant was detained by an off-duty police officer. One victim was described as pregnant; all were within earshot of the knifeman shouting “Allah ordered me to do it!”
With the three victims taken to hospital, France’s Interior Minister Laurent Nunez outlined what happened. Questioned about motives, official accounts describe the attacker as ‘incoherent.’ However, before long a more detailed picture emerged of the 31-year-old suspect and his possible ‘psychiatric problems.’
The national anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has been notified, but reportedly the terrorist angle is not being treated as the main line of inquiry. Of terror, a source close to the investigation said
Yet that’s what we thought at first. The bloke said “Allah sent me to kill women.” But no, “he’s just a madman.”
In any case, the anti-terrorism prosecutor’s office has not taken up the case.
Events in Paris follow Saturday night’s Islamist-connected mass casualty attack on the LGBT-themed Christopher Street Day in Berlin.
