‘Medical waste’ discovery prompts investigation, showing at least 34 human foetuses were disposed of at a property previously belonging to the suspect.

A Polish doctor has been charged after multiple human foetuses were found on private property that she previously owned.

“Magdalena H.” (57) was detained for questioning on Friday, June 12th. During construction work in the southeastern village of Lutoryż, builders unearthed from the garden of her former home a combination of human remains and medical cast-offs, prompting an investigation.

It appears from discarded equipment that the suspect had been running medical tests on the foetuses, as indicated by documentation, paraffin blocks, and tens of thousands of microscope slides all buried in the garden.

According to Krzysztof Ciechanowski, spokesman for the District Prosecutor’s Office in Rzeszów

This waste was most likely used by the detained woman to perform tests.

In response to the medical pathologist Magdalena’s alleged activities, there was a major search of the area, involving dozens of police officers, cadaver detection dogs, and ground-penetrating radar. Prosecutors charged her with desecration of human remains, improper handling of waste, and abandoning hazardous waste in an unauthorised location, which could result in up to 12 years’ imprisonment.

Reports suggest Magdalena H. admitted to removing the remains from her employer in Rzeszów in order to conduct tests on them at home. A further line of inquiry for local police is whether she had any accomplices.

While Poland’s strict abortion laws have added to the publicity surrounding the case, there is no evidence to date suggesting that the suspect was involved in aborting any of the 34 foetuses recovered.
