Moscow-backed authorities claimed 10 people were killed after a strike on a college dormitory in occupied eastern Ukraine

The Kremlin has vowed retaliation after a Ukrainian strike on a college dormitory in the Russian-occupied town of Starobilsk reportedly killed 10 people, according to Moscow-backed authorities.

Russian President Vladimir Putin ordered the army to prepare a response following the overnight drone attack from Thursday into Friday, while Russia’s Foreign Ministry warned that those responsible would face “inevitable and severe punishment.”

Leonid Pasechnik, governor of the occupied Lugansk region installed by Moscow, said 38 people were wounded and 11 teenage students remain missing.

Ukraine denied targeting civilians, saying the strike hit a Russian drone unit stationed in the Starobilsk area. Kyiv has repeatedly targeted Russian-controlled territory with drone attacks, describing them as retaliation for Russian strikes on Ukraine.
