UPDATED: Strikes on Kyiv Leave 18 Dead

“Another horrific night for the residents of the city, who were forced to spend it in shelters,” reported Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S. Olha Stefanishyna on X.

Russia struck at the Ukrainian capital overnight, starting Wednesday, July 1st, killing 18 people.

The enemy is once again deliberately targeting residential areas and killing civilians.

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky warned of an incoming “massive” attack, prompting some evacuation. More than 30 people were injured—reportedly a high proportion of them children—as a combination of missiles and UAVs hit homes, vehicles, a hotel, and an ambulance station.

Zelensky’s Ministry of Defence also claimed that Russia hit military bases in central and eastern Ukraine overnight.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the U.S. Olga Stefanishyna took to X to report on the Russian attack, highlighting the plight of the civilian residents of the Ukrainian capital.

UPDATE: Since this report first appeared, the official death toll has risen from 13 to 18, hence the revised figures in the current version of the story.
