Eastern Ukraine’s city of Kostyantynivka reportedly entered a “grey zone” on Monday, June 22nd, with no one military force being in overall control.
Russian troops have infiltrated the city, but have yet to surround it completely. Ukrainian drone operators are attempting to push them out, using urban warfare tactics. Strategically, much is at stake, with Kostyantynivka seen as a gateway to the rest of the Donbas region.
Russian soldiers have advanced from the south and southwest of the city, but have also been sighted in the north—hence their claims of encirclement—as they aim to cut supply lines.
From a Kremlin point of view, battle successes like this have become more important as Kyiv is coordinating a campaign of airstrikes deep into Russia, particularly impacting oil supplies.
