Polish prosecutors have charged two Russian citizens, identified as Igor R and Irina R, with spying for Russian intelligence.

Igor R faces an additional charge for allegedly plotting to send a parcel bomb via courier in July 2024. The package reportedly contained explosives, posing a serious threat to life and property.

Polish officials say the country has faced increasing espionage and hybrid warfare attacks from Russia since its invasion of Ukraine in 2022.

Earlier this year, at least 44 people were detained in Poland on suspicion of spying or sabotage for Russia or Belarus. Similar incidents, including parcel fires targeting courier companies have been reported across Europe, with Moscow denying involvement despite mounting evidence.
