The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) has ordered militias loyal to it to attack U.S. forces, as well as Saudi energy infrastructure.
According to Washington, Iran launched a missile attack late Tuesday evening, but the missiles were successfully neutralized. Tehran claimed that it was targeting a U.S. base in Jordan. The Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps also announced that it had hit three oil tankers in the Strait of Hormuz.
Washington stated that Saudi and U.S. fighter jets attacked Iran-backed militias the Iran-backed militia Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF) in eastern Iraq in response to the Iranian threat.
“The IRGC and its terrorist proxies must cease these attacks to avoid further U.S. military responses,” read a statement from U.S. Central Command.
According to the PMF, the U.S.-Saudi attacks represent a “dangerous escalation” and simultaneously violate Iraq’s sovereignty.
Oil prices rose early Wednesday morning over concerns that the escalation of the conflict.
