Energy Minister Dubravka Đedović Handanović said authorities are closely monitoring developments in the energy market.

Serbia’s government on Friday, March 13 announced a temporary 20% cut in fuel taxes as global oil prices surge amid the war in the Middle East.

Energy Minister Dubravka Đedović Handanović said excise duties on petrol and diesel would be reduced starting Friday and remain in place until April 15th. “The state is monitoring the situation, which is unpredictable from hour to hour,” she said.

Following the adjustment, weekly retail prices were set at €1.77 per litre for diesel and €1.58 per litre for petrol. Without the tax reduction, the minister estimated that diesel prices would have reached €1.92 per litre, while petrol would have risen to around €1.6.

Belgrade had earlier banned the export of oil and oil derivatives until March 19th, with the exception of butane, propane, and LPG.
