Two Somali migrants, who arrived to the Netherlands in 2021, have rejected accommodation provided by the state because the 55 square-metre apartment—with a kitchen, a bathroom, a living room, and a bedroom—was not big enough for their needs.
The brothers have been living in an asylum shelter, and, according to daily De Telegraaf, the authorities had great difficulty in finding suitable social housing for them in the city of Utrecht.
However, the ungrateful brothers did not accept the offer, saying that they each want their own flat or a larger house with several bedrooms.
The brothers’ lawyer argued that they need a more spacious home because “they are both adults and have different lifestyles.” In addition, they have younger brothers and sisters who live elsewhere in the Netherlands and who “should be able to stay with them” when they come to visit.
The central asylum agency demanded that the two be evicted from the asylum centre, a request that was granted by a court.Leader of the right-wing Party for Freedom, Geert Wilders was incensed by the news, and tweeted: “Set an example and immediately expel these ungrateful people!”
