Keir Starmer stands accused of turning his own rare celebration of St. George’s Day into an attack on Nigel Farage and Reform UK. His official reception, held at 10 Downing Street on Tuesday April 22nd, also contrasts with last year’s condemnation of celebrating English patriots as rioters.

According to the PM,

That flag doesn’t belong to me as Prime Minister, it doesn’t belong to my party, the Labour Party, or to any group or political party. It belongs to all of us, to England in all of its wonderful diversity. And we should be proud of that flag and we must never concede it because it’s an expression of our values and our patriotism.

Ahead of the (remaining) scheduled local elections, this was the build-up to a thinly veiled attack on Reform, who are predicted to perform well. Starmer also went for last year’s Southport rioters, demanding the red-and-white St. George’s cross flag be “wrenched” from their hands.

The gathering was unusual, in that recently Labour has shown little interest in the traditional day celebrating English patriotism. It was attended by a smattering of Starmerite celebrities—including broadcaster Gary Lineker—the kind of people who traditionally take to social media to remind people that, actually, St. George was Turkish.
