A violent attack occurred on a high-speed train traveling between the German cities of Straubing and Plattling on Thursday afternoon, when a Syrian man armed with an axe assaulted several passengers. The incident took place around 1:55 p.m. near Straßkirchen in the Straubing-Bogen district.
At least four people were injured in the attack before the suspect was apprehended. According to reports from Bild, the perpetrator is believed to be a Syrian national. Witnesses said he spoke with a foreign accent and was found carrying “dangerous objects.”
In a dramatic turn of events, a passenger reportedly managed to seize the weapon from the attacker and used it to fight back. The train was carrying approximately 500 passengers at the time. Police have confirmed the attacker was arrested at the scene.
