Authorities in Lower Saxony are investigating a disturbing case of so-called honor violence. According to Bild, a Syrian father allegedly instructed his 17-year-old son to murder his 19-year-old sister, claiming she had dishonored the family.
The courageous teenager went to the police, preventing a potential tragedy.
Ali, 46, fled Syria in 2019 with his wife and eight children. The family lives on state support in a large apartment, but Ali reportedly enforced strict control over his children, frequently beating his daughters and forbidding any interaction with boys.
Police say tensions escalated recently when Ali allegedly ordered his son to kill his sister.
“The suspect was provisionally arrested after immediate manhunts and initial intensive investigations,” a spokesperson confirmed. The Cuxhaven District Court has since issued an arrest warrant for attempted incitement to murder, and Ali remains in pre-trial detention.
Hanna, the 19-year-old victim, told Bild about her long ordeal: “For five years, my father has been beating me. We daughters aren’t allowed to talk to boys. I wasn’t even allowed to have a photo of an ice cream on my phone because my hand was visible on it.” She added that she had been beaten again last week after her father found blocked numbers on her phone.
Police were already familiar with Ali, who had previously been barred from entering the apartment for 14 days following an earlier assault.
Hanna said her father repeatedly declared he wanted to “live in a country where people applaud him when he kills his daughter—not in a country where he goes to prison for it.”
