Three students, all girls, were injured in a school stabbing at Vähäjärvi school in Pirkkala, outside of Tampere, Finland this morning. The male suspect, a 16-year-old student at the school, has been arrested. The Vähäjärvi school has around 1,250 students ranging in age from preschool to 9th grade.
The injuries, described by police as caused by a sharp weapon, were serious but not life-threatening. One victim was stabbed in the neck and one in the arm and waist, according to state broadcaster Yle. A reporter on site said six ambulances and at least seven police vehicles were at the scene.
A video of the incident, showing a suspect dressed in dark clothing attacking students, has gone viral on social media.
Yle has seen a manifest purportedly written by the perpetrator, listing his reasons for the attacks, but the media outlet has not been able to verify that the document was written by the suspect now in custody.
Finland has experienced several school stabbing incidents in recent years, varying in scale and impact.
